5 Common Furnace Problems We See

tech-unscrewing-heat-pump

After the past few years, it’s become incredibly clear that we need our furnaces to keep running well into the beginning of spring. Whether it’s an ice storm, a snowstorm, or just plain freezing temperatures, our neighborhood is not immune to the cold that we associate with northern climates.

Unfortunately, we’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Our homes aren’t as weatherproof for the cold as our northern neighbors, and while we put a lot of emphasis on our air conditioning, we also need furnaces that are working properly to stay safe and warm. You might even require professional heating repair in Rowlett, TX to achieve that goal.

So, we’re going to keep things simple today and talk about 5 common furnace issues we see on a reoccurring basis. We’ll talk about how these issues come about, why they’re so common, and what you can do about them. Just make sure you call our Plano heating service team for support if you need it.

Clogged Air Filter

The first and most common issue we see in furnaces is a clogged air filter. Air filters are actually supposed to be changed out by homeowners, they don’t really require any professional service, so this is always going to be at the top of our list. A furnace will start operating inefficiently and it will run into problems with airflow and overheating if the air filter isn’t changed out every 1-3 months.

Be sure to inspect this component when you think there’s an issue with your furnace. More often than not, this component is the source of the problem and should just be quickly changed out.

Short Cycling

Short cycling is an aptly named problem that occurs due to a variety of different problems. We sometimes call short cycling a symptom and a cause since it can often be both.

If your furnace is constantly turning on for a brief amount of time before abruptly shutting off to restart a few minutes later, then it’s probably the victim of short cycling. This can cause excess wear and tear on the system while also leading to higher heating bills, poor comfort control, and even a full system breakdown eventually.

Leaky Air Ducts

Air ducts are an important aspect of your furnace. It’s how the heat gets transported from your heating system to your home. If your air ducts are leaking or breaking down, then you’re going to see a decline in your furnace’s condition and quality since you can’t really feel the heat that doesn’t get to you!

Gunked-Up Burners

Is your gas furnace making a booming noise? This can be the result of soot and debris that has built up on the burners as they block the ignition of the gas. This will ultimately lead to a variety of problems, like broken components and a system that could start leaking gas or carbon monoxide.

Cracked Heat Exchanger

The heat exchanger is an important component that’s responsible for exchanging heat from the toxic fumes created from combustion to the fresh air of your home. If the heat exchanger gets cracked, you could see your home inundated with carbon monoxide and smoke. Make sure you’ve got detectors throughout your home and get your system maintained regularly to avoid this problem from coming up.

It’s time to call Aire Texas Heating and Air Conditioning for help with your furnace. Doing it right the first time… Every time!
